Heel surprised everyone

The Italian Werner Heel created the surprise Friday by winning the downhill World Cup alpine skiing in Kvitfjell.

American Bode Miller took second place in front of the Austrian Klaus Kröll. Heel, aged 25, has become the surprise with the number 26 while the victory seemed to promise Miller. Thanks to his second place, Miller has strengthened its position at the top of the World Cup overall, taking the lead over Benjamin Raich.

Before this first Norwegian descent, Heel only two places in the top 10 World Cup in 56 races: a 6th place in downhill at Lake Louise in November 2007 and a 9th place in downhill also already at Kvitfjell, there is a year.

It was the first victory of an Italian downhill for over six years and the success of Kristian Ghedina in Val Gardena in December 2001. Another downhill is scheduled for Saturday night in Norway and a super-G Sunday.
