Bert van Marwijk replace Marco van Basten as coach of the Netherlands
Bert van Marwijk will succeed Marco van Basten for the post of coach of the national football team of the Netherlands at the end of the European Championship this summer. Van Marwijk, currently coach of Feyenoord, will take up his duties in July. His contract runs until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa included. Van Basten had already announced his intention to leave the national team after the Euro to lead the Ajax Amsterdam, the club with whom he signed a four-year contract. "It's the greatest thing you can accomplish as a coach," said Van Marwijk in a statement. "When an opportunity like this presents itself, we must seize it." The next Dutch breeder, age 55, has also led to the German club Borussia Dortmund, after an initial period at Feyenoord from 2000 to 2004.
