Biathlon: Bjoerndalen wins World Cup sprint
The Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won the 10 km Thursday Khanty-Mansiyk s'adjuger for the sprint title in the World Cup biathlon. Among the ladies, Germany's Magdalena has outpaced the 7.5 kilometer sprint before the Frenchwoman Sandrine Bailly remains overall leader of the World Cup. Bjoerndalen, five-time Olympic champion, won in 25 minutes 24.9 seconds after Faultless shooting. He beat his compatriot Emil Hegle Svendsen of 10.0 seconds, while Russian Andrei Makoveev author of three errors at the shooting took third place at 32.5 seconds behind the winner. It was the 81st victory for Bjoerndalen World Cup and its 26th in the sprint. While a single sprint remains to compete, the Norwegian has 365 points at the top of the discipline, and 74 points ahead of the Russian Dmitri Yaroshenko. Each victory relates 50 points. Bjoerndalen is also close to win a sixth crown in the overall standings of the World Cup biathlon. A five events of the end of the season, the Norwegian totaled 765 points and has 159 points over Yaroshenko. Among the ladies, Neuner has been guilty of shooting and beat Sandrine Bailly by 10.1 seconds for his fourth victory sign World Cup of the season. The Russian Albina Akhatova took third place at 16.0 seconds. Bailly remains at the top of the overall standings of the World Cup with 684 points, 20 more than Germany's Andrea Henkel while five races still to go. Bailly is also leader of the discipline of sprint with 315 points, followed by Neuner who totalled 308.
